‘Deeper Water’ – A Yacht Business Series

Deeper Water Sailing Podcast

Where is the business of sailing at? What does the future hold for the sport in uncertain times? Where are the challenges and opportunities and who is making waves?

Deeper Water is a series of interviews, panel discussions and round-tables with key stakeholders including sailors, yacht clubs, manufacturers, media and fans. Virtual events will be distributed free as audio podcast, video replays and transcripts.

Developed and hosted by David Fuller, the series is designed to be a thought provoking and honest evaluation of all aspects of the sport – from professional events to grass-roots participation and the non-sporting side of sailing too.

Each week a typical 1-hour show would include

  • Update of recent newsworthy stories
  • Long-form interview with special guest(s).
  • Panel style discussion – hopefully debate – between guests
  • Q&A from audience (for subscribers)

Do we need another (Sailing) podcast?

Yes. There is room for an hour a week dedicated to looking at the business of sailing through a slightly different lens. The plan is to get as many perspectives as possible, not just the insiders and the pros.

Why Now?

Despite the recent success of events like the Vendee Globe and the America’s Cup, the postponement of the Olympics and other events will have a huge impact on the sport. Just how big remains to be seen. Continued travel bans, shrinking economies, increased unemployment and other factors are forcing all sports to evaluate how to move forward.

What Next?

We are currently inviting expressions of interest from sailing professionals who would like to appear as guests. There is no charge to appear. Guests will not be paid fees for appearing.

Why no pay for the professionals time? If I were one I would not even contact you. I am a photographer who has been asked in the past come and work for free, I often say no they do not even offer travel expenses its time to stop this work for free for exposure culture.

Hi Michael. Thanks for the comment. I agree with you – photographers should be paid professional rates. In fact, maybe we should do an episode with some of the best sailing photographers about their work. We are offering people a platform for exposure and they will get a chance to promote themselves, which has a benefit – just as you get a free link by posting this comment.
